Your Financial Maven
Samantha Mittman Besnoff is a CPA who reveals what you need to know about budgeting, taxes and your personal finances.
It's a topic we just don't want to talk about, but we need to: What happens if my spouse/partner passes, how do I handle the financial side of things. In this episode of Your Financial Maven, Samantha sits down with Chris Bentley, MBA, CFP®, CRPC®, CLU® and CEO of Wings for Widows to talk about what we just don't want to talk about. Understanding what needs to be done when a loved one passes, it so important and planning ahead of time too is just as important. Thank you to Chris for enlightening me and enlightening the listeners.
It's important to be aware of our money and understand it. And there are things that we don't always talk about, and we should. Join me in this great conversation with my girlfriend Lisa, who is also a part of the financial world, as we chat and talk about things including some new topics when it comes to money.
In this week's episode, Samantha has the pleasure of engaging in a wonderful conversation with a dear friend of hers, who she's known since their sons started first grade together. Since then, their bond has grown stronger, fostering numerous meaningful discussions about parenting and their journey through this life. So Samantha felt compelled to invite her close friend, Kristin, to join her in a heartfelt conversation about all things money. And Samantha is thrilled that she agreed to do it.
In this episode of Your Financial Maven Samantha shifts the conversation and chat with a really good friend of hers and one of her sisters about growing up together and how they learned about money and how it shaped their lives.
Money is a powerful force that can shape our lives and relationships, and this is particularly evident within a household where siblings coexist. Despite growing up under the same roof, siblings often develop different perceptions and attitudes towards money. Birth order, individual circumstances, financial roles, parental influences and personal values and priorities can affect how siblings learn and understand what it means to be financial empowered. As the youngest of three, Samantha can definitely agree with this.
Enjoy her chat with the Leahy Sisters
Tax season may be over, but reviewing your taxes throughout the year is recommended and will help you when it is tax time. Not only that, it can help with financial planning. I recently sat down with two Enrolled Agents to chat about taxes. Thank you to Kristin Delfau of HerMoney Solutions & Delfau Tax and Financial Services, LLC and Jenya Rose of Rose Tax and Financial for taking time out of your day to have a conversation with me about taxes. The take away from these conversations is that you should be paying attention through out the year and you should check in with a tax professional or take the time to look at resources like the IRS to see if any of these changes effect your taxes.
In this episode of Your Financial Maven, I sit down with Candice McGarvey, CFP as we talk about a holistic approach to understanding our Money. In 2020 she, became a Willow Financial Life Coach. Per her bio: "Candice utilizes her expertise in not only financial matters, but spiritual and emotional as well. Her coaching methods prepare clients to engage more fully in their finances while also experiencing the calm of financial wellness."

This is part one of a two part series with my longtime friend and Certified Financial Planner Kelly Reddy-Heffner, CFP, CDFA, CSLP. She is a Lead Planner at Your Financial Pharmacist. Kelly and I have known each other since our college days as sorority sisters at the University of Pittsburgh. She was instrumental in working with me and my husband as we planned for our older son to head off to college. Her knowledge and expertise in the student loan debt arena is top-notched. Kelly's approach with her clients is one of understanding and educating. And having kids in college herself, helps with navigating the cost of college and what that means regarding student loan debt.
